Golf Pros to Go was created to connect teaching professionals and students. Finding a coach who meets your skill set can be difficult and at times intimidating. GP2G will provide bios and information to help aid golfers in their search. Whether you are just starting out or have been playing golf for years, improving your game will never be easier.
I started to play golf late in life. Growing up in a golf family I enjoyed watching the game and respected it but was constantly involved in other sports. In my 40’s I decided to make the move and attempted to teach myself. Boy was that a mistake! You can read all the books and watch YouTube all day but that is not going to get you too far in this game. I quickly learned that golf is more physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding that I thought and if was going to become an average golfer I would need professional help. Yes, I said AVERAGE. Anyone who plays golf understands what I mean. I found a teaching pro at a local course and bought a 3 pack of lessons. That turned into a year of lessons with the same coach and things seemed to be going great. Winter came and went; I called the club to schedule lessons for the spring and to my surprise my coach moved to Florida for the winter and decided not to return to New Jersey. Oh No! Now what do I do? I went straight to Google and typed “Golf lessons near me” of course. What I found was a list of golf courses with no direction on who to contact, little to no information on coaches/teaching pros and a ton of listing of online videos and teaching aids. Being new to the game it was intimidating to cold call country clubs. Those places are for the rich and famous and that is not me. So, I went back to the beginning and began teaching myself, until one day a friend casually mentioned he stared to take lessons. I thought to myself this is not working, so I am going to give his place a try. The place had a few golf instructors who I knew nothing about and had no way to request a specific person. But hey what do I have to lose? I scheduled a swing evaluation and that turned into a lesson package. My new teaching pro seemed great but as a beginner so did my first coach. I have now been with the same coach since 2018 and I quickly realized that I was lucky, by chance or fate, I found a good one. A golf coach who can teach in a way I comprehend, is patient, experienced and shows he genuinely cares about his students and their game.
I tell this story because I experienced the difficulty in learning the game and in finding a teaching pro. Golf is hard enough, it should not take years to find a coach.
